We Went for New Year’s Shrine Visit
Hatsumode is a traditional Japanese custom of visiting a shrine or temple at the beginning of the new year.
It is a time to express gratitude for the past year and pray for a prosperous year ahead.
On the first school day of 2026, students from the Japanese language school also visited a nearby shrine for Hatsumode.
Although it was a slightly chilly morning, cheerful voices echoed through the grounds, and students were seen taking photos and enjoying the Japanese atmosphere.
“I hope my Japanese improves this year…”
“I pray for the happiness and well-being of my family and friends this year.”
While silently making their wishes, students confirmed the proper way to pray and quietly joined their hands together.
We were able to start the new year while immersing ourselves in Japanese culture.
Let’s continue learning Japanese and enjoying Japanese culture this year as well.
Thank you for your continued support this year.
